Study Links Smoking During Pregnancy with Increase in Obesity Later in Baby's Life

A new study from the University of Kentucky finds a connection between an expectant mothers smoking habits and an increased risk of obesity for the child.
HLM Highlights:
-While previous studies have shown a linkage, that linkage has not been well understood
-This study, performed by researchers at the University of Kentucky, identified a potential ceulluar mechanism that links obesity risk with smoking while pregnant.
-65 new mothers participated in the study, approximately half were smokers
-The study focused on Chemerin, a protein that is produced by fat cells.
-The study was supported by the National Insitutes of Health and the American Heart Association.
