Healthy Schools Summit Explores How to Help Kids Get Healthy in San Antonio

The Healthy Schools Summit brought together educators, community organizations, public health representatives and par­ents to learn about supporting healthy kids. About a dozen speakers shared methods for engaging par­ents, students and communities in wellness initiatives.

Mayor Julián Castro spoke of the importance of providing opportunities for children to make healthful choices. “I look forward to the day where the young people who are sitting in classrooms right now, at campuses all across the city … when they’re 75 years old, they’re still living in San Antonio, and they don’t have diabetes,” he said.
