The HLM Early Childhood/Out of School Action Team (ECOS) primarily consists of individuals who oversee policies or practices, or provide resources to the early care & education and/or out-of-school time sector. The ECOS Action Team was born out of the February 2016 Full Collaborative Meeting. At this meeting we hosted a breakout session around what needs to be done to better engage the sector in obesity prevention. Since then, the team has grown to now include 15 organizations working to address childhood obesity by focusing on supporting policies and practices for healthy eating, physical activity, and staff professional development this sector.

Current outcome objectives of this team:

  • Build the capacity of the ECE/OST professionals to implement policies and practices in obesity prevention. Examples include:
    • Professional development & train the trainer approaches
    • Call to Action
    • Consultation and model policies
    • Monthly newsletter
    • Resource guide
  • Develop pilot projects to help improve policies and practices within this sector
  • Develop a toolkit for other communities to use across the state in order to create their own local early care & education / out-of-school time action teams or coalitions
